The Earned Income Tax Credit helps middle to low income families keep more of their hard earned dollars to help pay the bills or establish savings accounts.
This tax season our the Thomas Jefferson Area EITC Coalition helped low-income taxpayers file around 1,500 tax returns, an increase of 550 returns compared to last year.
Ourefforts generated an economic impact of more than $2.4 million, including federal refunds claimed and tax preparation fees saved by taxpayers. This could not be possible without the help and support of more than 100 hard-working volunteers and community members.
Last week we had an ice cream social at our office to thank those volunteers, many of whom are UVA students. Delegate David Toscano (on the left in this photo) was the impetus in the formation of our local EITC coalition and stopped by to thank the volunteers in person.
Highlights of the tax season:
Thank you to all the volunteers who provided many hours in helping their fellow community members become more self-sufficient.
