Saturday, October 16 was perfect weather for tailgating and watching the UVa football game. Thanks to the generosity of the Virginia Sports, the United Way was able to invite clients, volunteers and staff from numerous area nonprofits to attend the game.
We heard stories of one boy bursting into tears when he learned he was going to see his first game at Scott Stadium, and also about one African immigrant attending his first game. I spoke with one woman who had lived here 20 years and had never been able to afford to go to a game and was excited to finally have a chance to attend one. Mentors brought their mentees, volunteers appreciated the recognition, and families created new memories.
Thank you to the University of Virginia for making the experience of attending a Division I college football game available to so many in our community.
