A speech from the heart

This is a speech delivered by now 8th grader Travis Daniels.  He had the same Charlottesville Abundant Life Ministries tutor, Anthony Brown, from 5th grade to 7th.  Anthony came and worked with him twice a week for six straight semesters and was involved in his life outside of tutoring and during the summers as well.  We honored our tutors last spring.  Anthony was graduating and moving to Richmond, so to honor him Travis prepared and delivered this speech for him in front of a large audience.  This is what he said:

“When I first got a tutor I was a 5th grader at Walker Elementary.  At first I told my mom I didn’t want to go to tutoring after school.  I just wanted to play basketball with my friends after school.  But after a while I began to like it.  With the help of my tutor Anthony Brown I have made honor role many times since 5th grade and have never made below a C.

Anthony, I want to say I did not only enjoy my time at tutoring but also enjoyed the time with you and your brother outside of tutoring.  Thanks for taking me to football and basketball games. You will never know how much it meant to me to have you as a tutor.   Even though you are graduating this year I know we will keep in touch over the summer.  Thanks and I wish you the best after college.”
