As the Volunteer Center Director, I can't help but smile when I see all of the enthusiasm this week about service! Kicked off by Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day (A Day On, Not a Day Off) and followed up by the Inauguration of President Obama and his call for Americans to serve our country through programs in our own communities, I feel the momentum building. We can all accomplish great things when we work together to make our community stronger.
Hands on Network (of which we are the local affiliate) and Starbucks want to encourage you to volunteer for 5 hours. Simply go to any of the local Starbucks and look for the Pledge 5 display and grab your "I'm in!" sticker to get your free tall coffee (now through January 25, 2009).
Once you have your energizing cup of joe you can head back to your computer and find a volunteer opportunity perfect for you or your friends and family. Go to www.Pledge5Starbucks.com or search locally by visiting the United Way Volunteer Center website at www.cvillevolunteer.info. Call Shaele Wood at 434-972-1705 if you are unable to access the site.
Let us know that you're participating in this campaign by RSVPing on our facebook page.
