"Barbara Hutchinson is a respected and admired professional woman in our community, said Valerie Long, Esq., Attorney and Partner at Williams Mullen, who serves as the 2013 Chair of the Board of Directors of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce. "She is an executive who mentors young women, volunteers in the community and balances it all with her life and family. It is our honor to honor her."
In her role at the United Way, Barbara handles oversight of United Way's direct services, and is a liaison to non-profit agencies & community. She is the liaison to Board Impact Teams, through which funding is appropriated for programs and direct services. She assists the President with strategic review of services and programs in light of trending changes in philanthropy, giving and community needs.
Barbara is the former Executive Director of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Authority where she led the airport through a major recession, resulting in financial stability and the addition of a new airline and a new destination. She implemented major public relations activities, which coupled with air service additions resulted in substantial passenger growth. She initiated planning and successfully sought funding of $42 million runway extension, critical for the future of jet service at the airport, the largest project in the airport's history.
Barbara's volunteer and organization involvement includes the Board of Directors of the United Way; President and Board of Directors of the John R. "Barbara's career & commitment to our community make her stand out as a leader and a perfect fit for this honor."
Barbara has been a mentor to several local women, including her nominator, who said, "What makes her a true inspiration is what she does when no one is looking. She actually kind of hates the spotlight. She listens and guides and coaches as if that were her only job. Even as a senior executive, she is the first to roll up her sleeves and do the dirty work." The one word used to describe her was "grace."
Underwritten by University of Virginia Health System, the annual Chamber Quadruplicity Conference focuses on four elements of balance: Career, Life, Money & Health. The conference is a full day of programming including this year's keynote speaker Megan Bray, Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Virginia. Attendees participate in speed networking and have the option of attending two of eight workshops held throughout the day. Fifteen exhibitors will participate to showcase their enterprises.
We sure are proud of Barbara!
