The Thomas Jefferson Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition is partnering with BB&T to provide free income tax preparation on March 21, 2013. The BB&T Bank Bus will bring tax preparation services directly to the community at the Albemarle County Office Building at 401 McIntire Road from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The free assistance is for families that earned less than $51,000 in 2012, and will be provided by IRS certified volunteers.
Taxpayers must make an appointment and bring photo identification (and for spouse if filing jointly); social security cards for the taxpayer, spouse, and all dependents; birth dates for taxpayer, spouse, and all dependents; and all W-2 forms and any other tax related documents. Taxes will be prepared and filed electronically on the bus. Refunds will be deposited directly into the taxpayers’ bank accounts at any bank.
In addition, BB&T will have knowledgeable staff available to discuss managing credit, help a taxpayer access his/her credit report and provide information on creating a personal or family budget to encourage savings.
“We appreciate BB&T’s sponsorship of this important community outreach effort and encourage local residents to take advantage of this free opportunity,” said United Way president Cathy Train.
The event is sponsored by the Thomas Jefferson EITC Coalition, a group of non-profit, government and private organizations that have combined to promote greater use of Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in the community through employer education and support, tax preparation assistance, consumer education, and public awareness. “We hope that members of the public will take advantage of this opportunity, not only to have their taxes done for free by trained volunteers, but also to learn how to obtain greater control over their personal finances year-round,” said Barbara Hutchinson, EITC Coalition representative.
