Local nonprofits look forward to it. Local business volunteers look forward to it. What is it?
The United Way Laurence E. Richardson Day of Caring. This year's date is September 18, 2013.
Last year, nearly 2,500 volunteers from local businesses and organizations spent a half or full day working on a variety of projects for local nonprofits and schools. At the end of the day, we all have a sense of accomplishment, and the volunteers have a greater familiarity with a nonprofit's mission and needs. The nonprofits get a large project completed and make new friends in the community.
How can you participate? If you are involved with a local nonprofit, ask if they have any projects they are unable to accomplish on their own due to lack of manpower. It could be as simple as cleaning out and organizing a storage area, or perhaps is a deferred maintenance issue like painting or lanscaping. Or perhaps help is needed stuffing envelopes for amialing. What ever the need, there are probably volunteers willing to help. If you would like your company or organization to register a team, bring the information to your human resources department.
Project registration is now open for nonprofits and schools, and volunteer teams from lcoal businesses or civic organization can also register. Visit www.DayofCaring.info for indepth information and registration information.
