United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area is proud to be an underwriter of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Charlottesville program. Yesterday morning we sat in on the team’s presentations of their projects for local nonprofit organizations and schools. It was clear that the participants were passionate about the causes they learned so much about through their projects. This year’s projects covered creating awareness of the need for more local foster families, a way for businesses to help fulfill nonprofit’s wish lists through the United Way Day of Sharing, a way to connect kids to the arts through local collaborations, a campaign to encourage people to earn their GED this year, and strategic planning for CATEC that embraces a new vision for the school.
And that is why we underwrite this program: to educate community members about our community – its strengths and its needs – in the hope that they will become actively involved in our community and its nonprofits as volunteers or board members.
And indeed, graduates of this program have gone on to impact our community in both large and small ways: the Tom Tom Founders Festival, the Community Investment Collaborative, CVille Central, Mentor. Tutor. Pass it on!and through countless hours volunteering across the community.
So, congratulations to this year’s graduates! We are expecting great things from you!
